Conduct Reflection Survey to Obtain Subseafloor Data in Offshore Noshiro City, Akita

Japan Petroleum Exploration Co., Ltd. (JAPEX) will conduct a reflection survey(*1) (hereinafter the "Survey") in the coastal area of Noshiro City, Akita (hereinafter the "Offshore Noshiro") to evaluate the availability of natural gas and other resources and suitability for advanced utilization of underground structures in the area from late September to late October this year.

JAPEX has been committed to contributing to carbon neutrality in 2050 through our activities, including continuous investment in the development to meet the demand for natural gas with low environmental impact and consideration for the practical application and commercialization of CCS/CCUS(*2), with expecting to reduce substantial CO2 emissions regarding as the main factor in global warming. The Survey will be conducted aiming to obtain the geological structure data necessary for further studies in the Offshore Noshiro, which is considered one of the most expected locations for resource development and other projects.

The Survey will take approximately less than one month in the onshore and offshore areas south of Noshiro Port, including preparation work and about ten days of reflection survey work. After the Survey, we will proceed with the consideration of various possibilities in the seabed of offshore Noshiro to utilize the obtained and existing data.

Aiming to grow as a "comprehensive energy company" that stably supplies energy for the times and to contribute to realizing carbon neutrality in 2050, JAPEX will carry out the Survey safely and steadily, with the understanding and support of the local governments and related authorities.
